Sydney Writers Festival May 20 & 22

I’ll be taking part in two discussions at this year’s Sydney Writers’ Festival.

On Friday May 20 at 1pm, Do the Taliban deserve a second chance?: Should we negotiate with the people we have sent our troops to fight against? Where would a Taliban victory leave the women of Afghanistan? Is there any way out of this quagmire? Scottish journalist James Fergusson joins Ida Lichter, author of ‘Muslim Women Reformers’, and journalist and Amnesty International Pakistan researcher Mustafa Qadri to discuss the options with James Brown. Details here.

On Sunday May 22 at 2:30pm, the Festival Café is transformed into a cyber-lounge where patrons can quiz dissident writers in Pakistan. Join James Fergusson, Fatima Bhutto, Mustafa Qadri and Sara Haghdoosti as they talk and tweet about Pakistan, a country at the nexus of the so-called war on terror. Use #swfcafe to join in the conversation. Details here.
