I’ took part in a discussion on ‘Just Wars in World Cultures’ at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London on Wednesday 4 February are:
“Media and Crisis: How do words and images portray ‘justness’ in world news coverage.”
3 panellists from very different backgrounds have been invited to share their knowledge and background with the audience. The panellists purposefully represent a broad range of practitioners, academics and researchers:
Mr Mustafa Quadri, a lawyer, trained at UCL along Philippe Sands, became foreign correspondent reporting for Reuters, The Guardian, The Australian among others, from Pakistan, Palestine to Piccadilly Circus
Mrs Glenda Cooper, journalist for major British and foreign publication including the Sunday Times, the Evening Standard, the Daily Telegraph, the Washington Post as well as on BBC News 24 and Radio 4 returned to academia and is now a visiting fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford.
Dr Dina Matar, former Reuters correspondent, now a lecturer in Arab Media and Political Communication at the Centre for Media and Film Studies at SOAS.
The Chair will be Mr Paul Schulte (Senior Visiting Fellow, Centre for the Study of Global Governance (LSE), and a Senior Visiting Fellow, Advanced Research and Assessment Group at the UK Defence Academy. He was formerly Head of the Post-Conflict Reconstruction Unit in the Department for International Development, Director of Proliferation and Arms Control in the Defence Ministry, and UK Commissioner on UNSCOM (United Nations Special Commission) and UNMOVIC (United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission).
